The Boudoir Cafe Serves Up Seduction

We recently interviewed the incredible Las Vegas boudoir photographer Cherie Steinberg of The Boudoir Cafe to learn more about boudoir photography and what creates an unforgettable boudoir experience.

In this rapid-fire Q&A, Cherie shares her thoughts on confidence, sensuality, photography, and why every woman deserves to celebrate herself through beautiful images.

When did you start shooting with Hedley Jones?

We started working together in 2003.

When did you launch The Boudoir Café?

We officially launched The Boudoir Café in 2014. Before that, we spent more than 20 years photographing weddings and working on creative projects together.

What challenges did you face in the beginning?

Fortunately, we did not face too many challenges. We had already built a strong reputation through weddings and our years working with Nikon USA. Many people in Los Angeles and Las Vegas already knew our work.

How do you handle cultural concerns surrounding boudoir photography?

Living in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, we have found that people are very open-minded and accepting of boudoir photography. Most clients see it as empowering and artistic.

Why should a woman experience a boudoir photo shoot?

Every woman deserves to have beautiful images of herself at least once in her lifetime. These photographs become lasting memories that celebrate beauty, confidence, femininity, and personal growth.

What are the most common reasons people book a boudoir session?

Some of the most popular occasions include:

  • Wedding gifts
  • Birthdays
  • Bachelorette parties
  • Personal empowerment
  • Celebrating a new chapter after a breakup or divorce

What advice would you give someone before their shoot?

Preparation makes a huge difference. We always recommend that clients:

  • Research ideas and inspiration
  • Look at poses and wardrobe styles
  • Eat healthy and drink plenty of water
  • Get enough rest
  • Bring meaningful personal items to the session

Most importantly, trust the process and have fun with it.

What if someone feels shy or self-conscious in front of the camera?

That is where an experienced boudoir photographer truly matters. Creating comfort, confidence, and trust is part of our job. We guide every client through the experience step by step.

What should a woman wear for a boudoir shoot?

She should wear whatever makes her feel beautiful and confident. That could mean elegant lingerie, glamorous gowns, an oversized sweater, or even nothing at all. Boudoir is about personal expression.

Is there anything clients should do to prepare beforehand?

Absolutely. We provide every client with a detailed preparation guide so they know exactly what to expect before the session. Clients really appreciate having that information in advance.

What inspired you to add boudoir photography to your business?

Honestly, it felt natural for us. Hedley and I love helping women feel incredible about themselves. We have the right personalities and creative energy for this kind of photography.

What do you love most about boudoir photography?

We love the simplicity and honesty of it. Watching someone transform in front of the camera is amazing. Many women arrive feeling nervous, but they leave feeling powerful, sexy, and confident.

Do you advertise boudoir photography differently because of the intimate nature?

Not really. Living in Las Vegas, boudoir photography feels very normal and accepted. Many women see it as something they want to experience at least once in their lives.

How do potential clients discover your work?

Most people find us through our website and social media. They usually connect with the mood, style, and emotion in our images right away.

Many clients tell us our work feels more edgy, artistic, and sensual than traditional boudoir photography.

Do you photograph nudes?

Yes, we do. However, every session is customized to the comfort level of the client.

How do you help people relax during a session?

Music, laughter, and good conversation make a huge difference. We create a fun and relaxed atmosphere where clients can simply enjoy the experience.

What is your favorite part about shooting boudoir?

We love the creative freedom. Every woman brings a different energy, and no two shoots are ever the same. Most of all, we love seeing clients walk away feeling transformed.

Why do people want boudoir photographs?

For many women, boudoir photography captures a special moment in their lives. These images become lasting reminders of confidence, beauty, strength, and personal evolution.

What is the best photography advice you have ever received?

Two quotes always stayed with us:

  1. “If you want to take great photographs, put something interesting in front of the lens.”
  2. “Shoot the same thing over and over again.”

What advice would you give photographers interested in boudoir?

Start shooting and keep learning. Experience is everything. Most importantly, learn how to connect with people and make them feel comfortable.
