Women’s Body Types
Before you decide what clothes to pack for your special shoot, it helps to understand your body type. There are five main body types that women have: diamond shape, hourglass shape, pear shape, and rectangular shape. All bodies are unique and beautiful, but knowing which one fits you best can help you choose the best clothing items for your boudoir shoot.
Boudoir for Diamond Shape
A diamond shaped body type has a full bust and midsection with slimmer hips. To flatter this body type for a boudoir photoshoot, opt for lingerie pieces that draw attention away from the midsection. Dark colors help slim areas we all want to minimize. Choose bodysuits with plunging necklines. Also, lace bras are great paired with high-waisted panties or wide garter belts. If you don’t want to accentuate your belly, opt for an A-line fit baby-doll teddy that covers the waist and hips. Robes do an amazing job of taking focus away from the mid-section while emphasizing your legs and chest. Plus they exude a relaxed and luxurious vibe. Avoid halter-neck tops! We know how to help pose voluptuous women to celebrate your curves!
Boudoir for Hourglass Shape
An hourglass figure has an evenly proportioned bust and hips with a narrower waistline. You can show off all of these curves by wearing lingerie pieces that accentuate your natural curves like corsets, waist cinchers or bustiers. This will give you an ultra-feminine look that also highlights your natural figure. They’re great for a diverse array of styles- edgy, classical renaissance, vintage pin-up, etc… Demi cup bras help show off the shape you bust. Larger busts can also consider balconettes especially if you need bust support. Tulle skirts and garter sets are perfect ways to amplify the size of your hips.
Boudoir for Pear Shape
If your hips/thighs are wider compared to your bustline, you have a pear shaped figure. A pear shaped body is not necessarily small chested, but your body tapers out from your top. Lingerie pieces like babydoll teddies draw attention to your upper half and are loose over your waist and bottom half. If you are small chested, get one with padding or extra support on top to enhance your breasts! Ruffled tops or off-the-shoulder bralettes are really playful paired with high waisted bottoms or boy-shorts. These help balance the proportions of your body by drawing attention upwards. You could try a garter/suspender belt if you want to enhance your waist. Women with a pear shape also have the option to accentuate their wide hips/bum with V-cut panties or a teddy. If your torso is long, try a matching set.
Boudoir for Strawberry Shape
This is the exact opposite of the pear-shaped body. This means you have a larger upper body that tapers inward. Your shoulders are a bit broader, while your hips are smaller. A halter top can bring focus inward to balance out your body lines. Thongs or strappy bikini panties that cut across your torso will create the illusion of width or low-waisted bottoms accentuate your torso length and bottom half. Teddies and chamises work well for this body shape because they tighten in around the hips creating a V-shape, while showing off that smaller bottom.
Boudoir for Rectangular Shape
Rectangular figures have hips, shoulders, and bust that are about the same width. Lingerie pieces that emphasize the shoulder area and highlight both your top and bottom in harmony such as bandeaus or crop tops paired with sheer skirts or will give the illusion of wider hips while still —allowing both areas to be highlighted in harmony! Think ruffled tulle shirts and frilly tops! Statement accessories can also draw attention away from the narrower parts down below while giving off an overall flattering silhouette in photographs. Try adding volume on top with padded bras balanced with panties that enhance the shape of your waist! If you are athletic with a long torso, try a halter top with a Brazilian cut, strappy thong, or cheeky bottoms.
